ST. LOUIS — Another beloved St. Louis restaurant is closing after just five years in business.

Sunny's Cantina, a Mexican-American restaurant in the Dogtown neighborhood south of Forest Park, is closing its doors on Sunday Oct. 13.

The owners announced the decision on Facebook and said "a month ago, we were planning on giving it another year at least, but it became clear these last few weeks that now is the right time."

The owners said despite the challenges the restaurant faced, including opening four days before having to shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, "it's just unfortunate timing from the get-go.  Enough said.  We wish it had a different ending."

The owners said "we want to say thank you to all of you who walked through our doors, shared a meal and became a part of our Sunny’s family. It’s been a true joy for us to serve you.  We love what we do."

They also thanked their dedicated staff and said "there simply is not enough space to show the gratitude we have for all of the employees that worked here.  Past and Present.  You handled all obstacles and challenges head on."

The business will be open for regular hours Saturday 11 a.m.-10 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m.-8 p.m. before closing. It's located on 6655 Manchester Ave. in St. Louis.
