ST. LOUIS — Crowd-sourced review platform Yelp just released its list of the top 100 pizza spots in the Midwest for 2024, and several St. Louis-area restaurants made the cut.
To create the annual list, Yelp's data team analyzed business rating and review volume for pizza places across the Midwest.
One pizzeria even made it into the list's top 10: Pizzeoli Wood Fired Pizza. Coming in at No. 7, the Soulard pizza joint is known for its "charred and flimsy" pizzas, according to its website. Pizzeoli also has a thing for high-quality, locally sourced and thoughtful ingredients.
“Our roots are in Old World–style pizza, but we’re Midwestern, so our pizzas are richer, heartier and more decadent,” Pizzeoli General Manager Josh Grisa told Yelp.
It starts with a four-ingredient dough that’s cold-fermented for several days, Grisa said. Then, the pies spend just 1 1/2–2 minutes in an oven fired by local hardwood until they get “a little smokiness and the crust leopards and chars nicely."
Last year, Yelp named Pizzeoli the 39th-best pizza place in the country.
The following local pizza spots made the list for their epic pies:
- Pizzeoli Wood Fired Pizza in Soulard (No. 7).
- Noto Italian Restaurant in St. Peters (No. 20).
- Press Pizza & Pasta in St. Louis' Fox Park neighborhood (No. 36).
- Uncle Leo's Pizza in south St. Louis County (No. 42).
- Anthonino's Taverna on The Hill (No. 66).
- Pizzeria Da Gloria on The Hill (No. 81).
- Dewey's Pizza in St. Charles (No. 88).
Anthonino's was also recognized for having the second-most reviewed business on the list with nearly 1,500 reviews.
