The city of Columbia, Illinois, is helping a young girl as she battles a pretty tough surgery during the holidays.
12-year-old Evy is having brain surgery on November 29, and because of the seriousness of the surgery, she will completely miss Christmas. The community is now rallying behind the girl to give her family some sort of support during the holidays.
The city hall posted a request on its Facebook page asking for people to show their Christmas spirit Monday night by driving to the family's home for hot cocoa and cookies. A lot of people also drove by and honked their horns in support. Family friends tell 5 On Your Side that Evy has other health conditions that are the root of the brain surgery, and they're all pulling for a safe procedure and speedy recovery.
You can send a little Christmas or holiday magic to the Columbia City Hall -- the city is making a request to drop off a small token for Evy, like a coloring book or a stuffed animal.
