ST. LOUIS — Feb. 14 is the day for love! Valentine's Day is celebrated every year on Feb 14, when you can express just how much someone special means to you. 

According to the U.S. Library of Congress, the first written mention of Valentine's Day can be traced back to 1493. In the Middle Ages, lovers would recite verse or prose to each other in honor of the day.

The holiday has over time evolved into what it is today, with the exchange of Valentine's Day cards, flowers and heart-shaped candies.

Celebrate and show appreciation for those you love in the St. Louis area by treating them to one of these 10 places created straight from the heart.  Here are 10 local places where you can share and enjoy the abundance of love in the air. 

St. Louis

Dance, laugh and joke at an in-person event dedicated to to celebrating Valentine's Day in style. Join other lovers for a romantic dinner and music by The Red Jackets BIG Band, presented by Alexander Ruwe Entertainment (ARE). General admission is $125. For more information and times, click here. Love is Blind | Rosé by Peno 

Have fun on Feb. 13 during this blindfolded dinner series that will include four vibrant courses, Rose by Peno and more. There will even be vibes for the singles and those who would like to go on a blind date. 

Tunnel of Love and Cupid's Courtyard | City Museum 

From Feb. 8-29, immerse yourself in this loving environment inside the Tunnel of Love light display. For more information and tickets, click here

On Feb. 10 -11 attend Cupid's Courtyard Valentine's Pop-Up Bar at City Museum. The event will feature five specialty cocktails including banana split, scandalous margarita, and more. 

On Saturday, walk over to ArtCity inside the City Museum for a Paint and Sip event. The paint supplies and admission are included in your ticket price.

Love Bites | The St. Louis Aquarium 

You can choose a feeder -- anything from a mealworm, to a vegetable or a cricket -- name it after an ex and one of the Aquarium's ambassador animals will come to eat it. Visit stlaquariumfoundation.org/events to sign up. In return, you could get a digital Valentine and a video that you can send to your ex. 

Love in the Loop | Galentine's Barbie Movie party | Moonrise Hotel | 

On Feb. 13, gather your best friends and watch the "Barbie" movie while you enjoy several appetizers, ice cream from Serendipity, and specialty cocktails. There will also be live music. Tickets and times are available here.

Be Mine at Clementine's   

Between Feb, 4-29, you and your lover could indulge in flavors such as sour cream red velvet cake, espresso romano, butterscotch toffee melt and peanut butter crunch. Love at The Cheshire Hotel  

All February long, you can reserve a "Love Story" package at the Cheshire, located on the edge of Forest Park. "The English-themed hotel will include chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne in your room, a late checkout and a pair of embroidered robes to take home," according to its website. Looking for something more oriental? Dance and party at a Bollywood-styled dance party on Feb. 10. There will be an unlimited food buffet of Indian cuisine, cocktails and more.
