(KSDK) – Jim Carrey is well known for his comedic chops and zany characters, but this past weekend, he turned to a different side of himself as he delivered the commencement address to the Maharishi University of Management.

Carrey told the stories of watching his father turn away from what he loved to what he thought was more safe and the lessons he gleaned from that, including:

"I learned many great lessons from my father, not the least of which, was that you can fail at what you don't want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love."

According to St. Louis Business Journal, Carrey also put a small swipe in toward St. Louis based corporation Monsanto.

"I'm here to plant a seed today," Carrey said, according to the Des Moines Register, "a seed that will inspire you to go forward in your life with enthusiastic hearts and a clear sense of wholeness. The question is, will that seed have a chance to take root or will I be sued by Monsanto?"
