We're always among the first to herald the amazing work of shelter workers. Their tireless dedication, compassion, and knowledge ensures that many homeless cats and dogs are comforted and cared for in their time of need. Therefore, we were heartened when we saw the latest viral video doing the rounds.
Filmed at the Conway Area Humane Society in New Hampshire, the video shows four-year-old Prissy, a hound mix, snuggled up with a shelter worker following a spaying operation. Terrified and uncomfortable following her ordeal, which included being dumped in a junkyard with three puppies, Prissy took great comfort from shelter worker Chrissy Ireland.
Ireland told ABC News that she didn't want the pup to feel any more traumatized than being behind bars had made her already: "I saw [her] and she was all shaky and she didn’t feel good. It made me feel so sad for her. So I just found myself laying on the floor with her and kissing her and loving her. Coming out of anesthesia and you’re behind walls and you're behind a gate; it’s just scary. I know if I was getting fixed and I woke up in a kennel, I’d be scared."
Ireland who has worked at the shelter since 2009 had no idea that a co-worker was filming her comforting moment with Prissy. Now that the video has gone viral, it's hoped that a loving pet parent will snap up the new mom, who has proved to be an exceptionally loving canine during her time at the shelter. "I think she'd be great in any home and in any situation," Ireland continued. "I would love to see her with kids so she can be outside playing in a yard and having a good time."
