Robin Thicke, Paula Patton announce split

"We will always love each other and be best friends."

It's over between Robin Thicke and Paula Patton.

The pair have announced their decision to split after eight years of marriage. "We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time," the Blurred Lines singer and the Baggage Claim actress told People on Monday.

Thicke, 36, and Patton, 38, married in 2005 and welcomed son Julian Fuego Thicke in April 2010.

In the wake of Thicke's provocative Blurred Lines music video and his controversial performance with Miley Cyrus at the MTV Video Music Awards, the pair spent much of last year talking about their relationship.

"Some of our individual goals still haven't been realized," Thicke told USA TODAY in July of his relationship with Patton. "But we have a healthy child. We're madly, crazily in love. That's where I was at, and I wanted to celebrate it. Life is pretty good, you know?"
