ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Development Corporation began accepting applications from small businesses interested in applying for financial assistance through a new program on Wednesday.
Last week, St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson announced a nearly $64 million relief package related to COVID-19 in the St. Louis area.
Part of the package is a $4 million Small Business Grant Fund to assist small businesses in the city that have been impacted by stay-at-home orders, according to a press release. The grant amounts will be $5,000.
The small business fund is subject to approval by the Board of Alderman and the Board of Estimate and Apportionment, the release said.

Fifty percent of the available funding will be reserved for businesses located within areas designated as Promise Zones, Opportunity Zones and Neighborhood Revitalization Stabilization Areas, according to the release.
To be eligible for these grants, businesses:
- Must have 25 or fewer employees (as of March 19, 2020)
- Must have a physical presence in the City of St. Louis
- Must have closed or been significantly impacted as a result of COVID-19 and the City’s Stay Home – Essential Activities Only Order, Health Commissioner’s Order No. 5”
- Owners do not have a conflict of interest (no City employees or immediate family)
- Does not discriminate per City of St. Louis ordinances
- Must have had a current business license as of March 19, 2020
- Must be current on all City taxes as confirmed by the Collector of Revenue’s office
- Must not have received federally funded COVID-19 funding through SBA (PPP,EIDL)
The following businesses are not eligible for the program:
- Nonprofit Organizations
- Banks & Financial Institutions
- Law Firms & Attorneys
- Physicians, Dentists, Surgeons, Optometrists, Chiropractors, & Veterinarians
- Insurance Brokers & Agents
- Real Estate Brokers & Sales Agents
- Architects, Engineers, Land Surveyors
- Nursing Homes
