ST. LOUIS BUSINESS JOURNAL — A group of investors has purchased the Maull's barbecue sauce brand and is distributing several flavors, which St. Louis-area stores began stocking in the last few weeks.
St. Louis attorney William Cooper, one of the investors, declined to name others involved in the new venture, called Allied Investments LLC, which was registered with the state in December. He confirmed Allied bought the Maull's brand for an undisclosed amount and is producing the sauce by leasing Louis Maull Co.'s plant at 219 N. Market St. Cooper said the new venture is considering buying that building.
Maull's previous owner, Louis Maull Co., which dates to 1897, began selling barbecue sauce in 1926. As the Business Journal first reported, the company had shut down operations in December after being hit by over $103,600 in judgments last year.
