OLIVETTE, Mo. — A huge construction project planned in Olivette just got bigger.
The developer has proposed doubling the size of the original project, asking the city to add more retail space, a hotel and parking garage.
The development near I-170 and Olive originally was going to cost $37 million for the 85,000-square-foot project.
The new proposal doubles the size to 170,000 square feet and nearly doubles the price to $72 million.
If you live in the area, this would mean even more money from taxes for the school district. However, it could also mean a lot more traffic in the area.
The project was supposed to be done by now, but because of the proposed changes, developer Greg Yawitz has to get the city’s approval for a second time. He hopes to start construction by summer. That’s as long as everything goes smoothly at a TIF hearing Thursday at 7 p.m. at the city center.
“It never goes as fast as you think. When we built Price Crossing we started in 2003, thought we’d break ground in in 2004; we broke ground at the end of 2005 and this building is only 47,000 square feet on four acres and that’s going to be 170,000 square feet on 14.5 acres,” Yawitz said.
