GRANITE CITY, Ill. — Glik's, a national clothing retailer, plans to relocate its longtime Granite City headquarters to Collinsville.
The Collinsville City Council on Tuesday approved $600,000 in tax increment financing for Glik's new headquarters, a ground-up 40,000-square-foot office and e-commerce warehouse on nearly 4 acres along ABC Parkway between Interstates 255 and 55.
The city also approved a 10-year, 50% rebate of online sales taxes for Glik's wherein the city could receive $266,800 in collections, and the city estimates it will receive $98,942 in property taxes over a 10-year period. Glik's could receive a sales tax break for construction materials, estimated at $108,000, through the Madison County Discovery Enterprise Zone, according to city documents.
The headquarters, estimated to cost $5.3 million, would employ 60 people, with the possibility of hiring 20 more. A ribbon cutting is scheduled for March 4, a city spokesman told the Business Journal. The retailer's CEO, Jeff Glik, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Founded in 1897, Glik's targets small-town America, preferring to move into vacated retail spaces, which helps the company save on development costs as well as dominate markets where few major national players have a presence.
