ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis high school known for its basketball tradition is proposing a new, 28,000-square-foot arena in Creve Coeur.
Chaminade College Preparatory School, which calls the NBA’s Jayson Tatum and Bradley Beal alumni, has submitted an application to the city of Creve Coeur for a new stadium. The city’s planning and zoning commission will host a public hearing about the project Tuesday night.
Plans call for a 1,200-seat basketball arena within the school's campus grounds at 425 S. Lindbergh Blvd. No cost of the project was given. City documents state the project would be called the Bradley E. Beal Arena. Audrey O’Hagan is listed as the architect.
The new facility is expected to be located between the school’s current main gym, called the Athletictron, and its baseball stadium. With the new facility, Chaminade will be able to move existing basketball, volleyball and upper-grade-level practices to the new arena.
“This will allow for upgrading the older facility and allow a relaxing of the scheduling of the various games and practices for the various grades,” school officials said, according to city documents. “There will not be an increase in the number of varsity games, and therefore any impact on parking should be nominal.”
Chaminade has total enrollment of 869.
