Well known flower shop adapts to unique Mother's Day

Since the shop is employing less than half it's normal employees, deliveries are booked for the next couple weeks.

ST. LOUIS — It's a day the folks at Walter Knoll Florists would normally be slammed with same-day delivery, but this Mother's Day looks a whole lot different.

"We are limited to our staff because you can only have so many people in the building, so it's really unique for us employing people who are answering phones saying no we are booked up, that's usually foreign words to us but that's the world we are living in today," explained Owner Chuck Knoll.

To adapt, Knoll is employing less than half his normal staff to sell flowers.

Mother's Day deliveries were fully booked days in advance, curbside pick up and outdoor shopping are also available at the shop that's been in business for more than 100 years.

"1883 is the date that we use so ever since the Civil War our family has been here doing flowers," added Knoll.

Knoll's show has flourished through the Spanish flu and both world wars, but now he's just trying to make sure his customers are happy and his employees are safe.

"We're just going to have to wait and see like everybody else," said Knoll.

Since the delivery business is down the flower shop is offering 30 percent discounts on all gift cards.
