WASHINGTON — If you were expecting a stimulus check and didn’t receive one, the IRS has launched an online tool to help you get some answers.
Users can track their stimulus checks and update direct deposit information if they haven’t already, which could help them receive their checks faster.
The tool was supposed to launch by Friday, April 17. In a press briefing Monday, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin announced it would launch Wednesday, April 15.
The app will display on any desktop, phone or tablet, and does not needed to be downloaded from an app store. Users will need to share personal information to get the status of their payments, like social security number, date of birth, and mailing address. Additional information may be needed.
About 80 million people will receive their stimulus checks by the end of the day Wednesday.
Possible reasons for receiving a later payment could be because the person didn't file their 2018 or 2019 tax returns, the person is very low income, or the person is older and didn't need to file. In that case, the person could wait weeks - maybe months - to see that money. Any paper checks should go out starting in early May.
