St. Louis pet clinic offers critical services at a fraction of the cost

The Carol House Quick Fix Clinic in St. Louis offers pet care services on a sliding scale to help owners make ends meet.

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. — On a given morning, there's usually a line out the door at the Carol House Quick Fix Pet Clinic because the place is so affordable that even veterinarians refer their patients there.

The clinic is located near Lafayette Square in St. Louis.

Jason Salas dropped off his dog on the way to work because his veterinarian on Telegraph Road highly recommended sending his dog there to get spayed.

"She said this was one of the best places-- fast, convenient and inexpensive," Salas said. "She recommends a lot of people to come down here."

Veterinary services are at a premium these days with the cost of food and services both climbing. Animal shelters are reporting that they receive a lot of surrenders, as well.

"We provide low-cost spay and neuter options and preventative services," said Wendy Heckman, the executive director of Quick Fix.

In the last 12 years, Heckman said the group has done 125,000 spay and neuter procedures. Heckman said it's the best way to fight overpopulation and keep pets healthy, especially if they ever go outside.

The clinic offers reduced costs and a sliding scale, and some services are free altogether depending on your zip code.

"It was designed that way to make sure no one falls through the cracks," Heckman said.

This is all possible because of donations. Quick Fix is not a center for everyday veterinarian needs, but if your dog needs a snip or a shot, it's a great place to help you make ends meet.

It's something Salas certainly appreciated.

"Every cent counts," Salas said.

There are many services from vaccines to surgeries at Quick Fix. You can go online and schedule a week in advance to see what's available and what's on a sliding price scale.
