Southwest brings back its companion ticket deal, but you have to act fast to get it

The deal comes and goes just as fast

ST. LOUIS — Southwest Airlines is having a great deal on companion passes, but the deal will be over nearly just as quickly as it was announced.

On September 3, the airline announced the return of its highly-coveted Companion Pass promotion, which gives Rapid Rewards members a companion pass so they can fly with one person for free every time they fly for a select amount of time. The deal will end on September 5.

New this year, members can use their rewards points, a combination of cash and points, or forms of payment to book qualifying flights that count toward the companion pass.

To qualify for the companion pass promotion, you have to register for the promotion and buy a qualifying Southwest flight (one round trip or two one-way qualifying flights), and travel by November 20. You then can designate a companion to travel for free to fly any time between January 5, 2025, and March 6, 2025.

Southwest lists its main operating bases in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago-Midway, Dallas-Love, Denver, Houston-Hobby, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Oakland, Orlando, Phoenix-Sky Harbor, and St. Louis. In St. Louis, terminal 2 is only for Southwest and Lufthansa Airlines.
