ST. LOUIS — Blues’ winger Pat Maroon and Stars’ goalie Ben Bishop shared a moment on the ice they both will never forget.
But one St. Louis native’s memory of Tuesday night's game will sting for a while.
Maroon scored the game-winning goal in double-overtime against Bishop in Game 7 to advance the Blues to the Western Conference Finals.
Here's the game-winning moment:
Maroon graduated from Oakville High School around the same time Bishop attended Chaminade College Preparatory School and played youth hockey with the Kirkwood Stars.
The fact that the two players involved in the last play of Game 7 were both St. Louisans is undeniably special for them and this city.
On top of that, it was the second time in this series Maroon beat Bishop for the game-winner. He first did it with 1:38 to play in Game 3 to give the Blues a 4-3 win.
After Tuesday night's game-clinching goal, a Blues fans captured the two locals sharing this experience with each other... while each of them are probably feeling contrasting emotions.
The pictures were shared on Twitter Wednesday morning and have gained a lot of attention.
The photos showed a touching moment between the opponents. They shook hands, then hugged and talked for an extended time on the ice.
Maroon and Bishop are actually friends off the ice and play golf together when they come home during the summer.
It's incredible to see these hometown stars share their friendship on the ice in downtown St. Louis in front of everyone to see.
Despite the outcome and frustration Bishop must be feeling, both players had unbelievable performances this series.
Bishop made a career-high 52 saves just in Game 7 while Maroon had two goals against the Stars, with both of them being game-winners.
They certainly did St. Louis proud.
Now, the Blues wait to see who their next opponent will be in the Western Conference Finals after the San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche play in Game 7 Wednesday night.
