ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Blues have signed defenseman Carl Gunnarsson to a new two-year contract worth $3.5 million ($1.75 million per year).
Gunnarsson was slated to become a free agent on July 1, but his new contract will keep him in St. Louis through the 2020-2021 season.
The Swedish defenseman is responsible for one of the biggest goals in the history of the franchise. His overtime goal in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Bruins gave the franchise its first ever win in a Stanley Cup Final.
The 32-year-old only played in 25 regular season games last year due to injury, totaling three goals and four assists.
The Blues locked up their head coach Craug Berube, for three years earlier in the week.
