Burger King has set out to confuse its customers - all to inform them on the issue of illiteracy.

Per People.com, Burger King was inspired by the World Literacy Foundation for a new ad campaign directed to bring attention to the growing illiteracy rates still ongoing in the world. According to the World Literacy Foundation, one out of five people, or around 20 percent of the world's population, cannot read or write.

Burger King changed their menus at one restaurant to show the rest of the population who can read and write just what it's like to be unable to read.

Wednesday, the fast food chain released a video released a video showing the reactions of the customers trying to read the garbled menu.

"I don't understand, one customer said. "What does it say?

"How are you going to read that," said another.

"You can't read it? Why don't you come on over to the window and we can sort it out," said an employee.

Once the customers get to the window, the employee reveals they weren't just seeing things: "Did you know that 1 in 5 people worldwide can't read?"
