Cardinals take outfielder Trejyn Fletcher in the 2nd round of MLB Draft

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals selected outfielder Trejyn Fletcher with their 2nd round selection (58th player overall) to complete Day 1 of the 2019 MLB Draft Monday night.

Fletcher, from Deering High School in Portland, Maine shows skills and athleticism that helped make him one of the highest drafted high school position players of any Maine native. 

Fletcher is a 2019 USA Today All-USA High School Baseball selection who batted .456 with three home runs and 17 stolen bases in 16 games this season during his senior year.

Fletcher has committed to play college baseball at Vanderbilt University, the No. 2 ranked team in the nation.

He will have until Aug. 15 to decide whether to start professional baseball or go to college.

The 2019 MLB Draft resumes Tuesday, June 4 at 12 p.m.
