ST. LOUIS — Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis officials are reminding members of the community that the postponed MLK Day food give-away is scheduled for Saturday.
The event takes place from noon-3 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Urban League Regional Headquarters at Kingshighway and Dr. Martin Luther King, in St. Louis.
It is a drive-through only event.
“If you do not have a car,” said Urban League President and CEO Michael McMillan, “please take advantage of any of the six Urban League food pantries in the region throughout the week. If you do have a car, please come and take advantage of all these resources Saturday, Feb. 10, from 12-3. We want to make sure none of this food, none of these PPE (personal protective equipment) items, and none of these toiletries go to waste.”
McMillan said the organization has collected $150,000 worth of merchandise to be distributed, free of charge.
There is enough for 2,500 people.
“This food really is for people who have lost jobs, the elderly, and disabled,” McMillan said. “It’s for people who really need our help, our neighbors in need.”
McMillan said Urban League partners in this endeavor include Ameren, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Schnucks Markets, the MLK State Holiday Commission, and hundreds of volunteers.
