Woman dead after shooting involving off-duty officer, St. Louis police say

A 26-year-old woman died from a bullet-related injury early Saturday morning.

ST. LOUIS — One woman was killed after a fight led to a bullet-related injury on Saturday morning, police said.

Officers with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a local hospital to speak with two women who were transported privately to an area hospital.

Police said a fight involving the two women began in St. Louis County and moved to a vacant lot in the 4900 block of Cote Brilliante Avenue, where it continued.

At some point during the fight, a 26-year-old woman went to her car, grabbed a gun and shot a 23-year-old woman in the leg, police said.

Then a 28-year-old man pulled a gun and shot the 26-year-old woman. 

Police found that he was an off-duty officer for the St. Louis Airport Police Department and the boyfriend of the 23-year-old woman.

The 26-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police. The 23-year-old woman was in stable condition.

According to the SLMPD crime report, there has been a 29% improvement in the murder rate in District 5 so far this year. There has also been an improvement in shooting incidents and victims in District 5 so far this year. 

The Force Investigation Unit will continue this investigation.

The Bullet Related Injury Clinic (BRIC) is a community-based clinic in St. Louis that helps people heal after they have been injured by a bullet. The BRIC was established to help people who are discharged home from the emergency department after being shot.
