14-year-old boy arrested after police pursuit of vehicle taken in south St. Louis carjacking

St. Louis police said a couple unloading items from their 2019 Kia Optima were carjacked Monday night in the city's Tower Grove East neighborhood.

ST. LOUIS — A 14-year-old boy and a man carjacked a couple in St. Louis' Tower Grove East neighborhood Wednesday night, police said.

The couple, both 26, were unloading items from their car near South Compton Avenue and Pestalozzi Street shortly after 8:30 p.m. when they were approached by the two suspects. One of the the suspects had a gun and demanded the victims' car.

The suspects drove away in the victims' 2019 Kia Optima. A short time later, police spotted the Kia and pursued it to the 5700 block of Etzel Avenue in north St. Louis, about seven miles away from where it was stolen. The 14-year-old boy was taken into custody, police said.
