Police said the 15-year-old fired the shot that killed 38-year-old Kay Johnson.

ST. LOUIS — A 15-year-old boy was charged Wednesday in connection with a deadly attempted carjacking in January.

Deshaun Harris, 15, was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the Jan. 24 attempted carjacking in which 38-year-old Kay Johnson was killed.

Editor's note: The above video was published on Jan. 26.

According to a probable cause statement, Johnson was pulling her car into the garage at her home on Compton Avenue in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood when Harris and two others pulled up behind her in a stolen Nissan sedan. The statement said Harris pulled out a gun and ran up to the passenger side while another armed member of the group ran up to the driver's side window.

Harris and the other person ordered Johnson out of the car, but when she took too long, Harris shot her in the face, according to the probable cause statement. Harris died at the scene of the shooting.

Johnson's 14-year-old daughter was in the car with her when she died.

Police said the deadly shooting was caught on camera, and when Harris was arrested, he was wearing the same coat he wore in the shooting. Police also found a handgun outside his bedroom window that was determined to be the murder weapon, according to the probable cause statement.

Three other teenagers were arrested in connection with the investigation when police spotted them in the stolen Nissan the day after the shooting. A police chase ended in a crash and three teens were arrested. A 13-year-old boy was also arrested in connection with the attempted carjacking about a month later.
