ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. — Two men were arrested in connection to gunshots that were heard on Saturday in the area of the Camp Jackson Fire Department in Cahokia Heights, Illinois.
Two men had permission to shoot on private land, located about two miles away from the fire department building, according to Master Sgt. Adam Quirin of the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department.
As the men were shooting, firefighters and residents in the area heard the gunshots. Quirin said about 10 calls were made to 911 regarding the gunshots.
"It was literally probably 300 rounds, cars were stopping. There were people that were walking, and they were looking around trying to figure out where to go. The business across the street, they were shutting their bay doors," Assistant Fire Chief Sharon Davis said on Sunday.
Davis said the shots went off for almost an hour, and police told her that neighbors in nearby homes even found shell casings on their porches.
The men were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of firearms by a felon, according to the sheriff's department. Deputies did not release the names of the two men they arrested, but said they do not believe the men are connected to other recent shootings that ended with the fire station being shot.
