2 people shot Saturday night in Ferguson

An initial investigation suggests both people were shot in the area of Sam's Meat Market. They were taken to a St. Louis hospital for treatment of their injuries.

FERGUSON, Mo. — Two people were critically injured in a shooting Saturday night along West Florissant Avenue in Ferguson, officials said.

Officers responded shortly before 9 p.m. to the 9100 block of West Florissant Avenue, the city's main thoroughfare, where they found the two people shot, said Pat Washington, the public information officer for the Ferguson Police Department.

An initial investigation suggests both people were shot in the area of Sam's Meat Market. One of the victims ran across the street to Canfield Drive; the other victim ran about a quarter-mile away to Elite Market and Grill, which was known as Ferguson Market and Liquor until 2022.

Both victims were taken by ambulance to a St. Louis hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Washington said the shootings apparently stemmed from an argument between people who know each other. Officers are canvassing the area the man they believe is the shooter is known to frequent.

Police asked anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
