O'FALLON, Ill. — Three people were charged after police in O'Fallon, Illinois, said they kidnapped a man and held him against his will while using his bank card.
According to a press release from the O'Fallon Police Department, 23-year-old Tevion Wright, 44-year-old Evangela Randle and 55-year-old Charles Jackson were all charged with unlawful restraint and other crimes in connection with the Jan. 12 incident.
Police began their investigation after they were called to the hospital on Jan. 13 for a report of a man with a gunshot wound. The victim, a 58-year-old man, told officers he was lured to a home on Brookside Drive by two people he knew. He said when he arrived, he was shot, robbed and held inside the house against his will.
He said the people held him inside the home while they used his bank card to withdraw money from his accounts.
After more than 12 hours inside the house, the suspects dropped him off at the hospital for treatment.
The press release did not say what role each suspect played in the alleged kidnapping.
Wright was charged with aggravated kidnapping, armed robbery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated unlawful restraint. Evangela Randle was charged with robbery kidnapping and unlawful restraint. Charles Jackson was charged with obstructing justice and unlawful restraint.
All three are being held at the St. Clair County Jail pending additional court proceedings.
The press release said the victim was targeted based on his relationship with the suspects. The victim was treated at the hospital and is expected to survive.
