'I shot her. I shot her': Woman shot in the neck by boyfriend at Ameristar Casino

The suspect was taken into custody, and the gun was found inside the vehicle, police said.

ST CHARLES, Mo. — A woman is fighting for her life after she was shot in the neck at a parking garage near Ameristar Casino in St. Charles early Saturday morning.

The woman was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and rushed into emergency surgery, according to the police report. Police said she was in critical condition.

Officers with the St. Charles Police Department responded to the shooting call at the casino. When officers responded, they found a 27-year-old woman with a bullet-related injury in her neck, police said. She told the officers at the scene that her boyfriend, a 50-year-old St. Louis man, shot her.

St. Charles Police said that Calvin Koong was charged with domestic assault, kidnapping and armed criminal action. He was being held on a $500,000 bond.

According to online business records, Koong is the owner of Tai Ke restaurant in Olivette.

Police obtained the casino's surveillance video of the incident during the initial investigation.

The footage shows the woman sitting in the driver's seat of Koong's vehicle on the second level of the parking garage, police said. That's when the driver's door opened.

Police said the footage showed Koong force the woman back into the vehicle, where there was further struggle.

Police also said the footage showed the woman trying to escape and finally exiting the car and collapsing near the vehicle, where people close by provided aid until first responders arrived.

Police said, Koong fled on foot and was halted by the garage's concrete barrier.

A casino security officer told police that he saw the suspect in the parking garage attempting to flee.

The security officer told investigators he heard him say, "I shot her. I shot her."

The police report said that the officers on the scene made contact with Koong and he admitted to shooting the woman to them, also.
