ARNOLD, Mo. — Arnold police are investigating a phone scam at the McDonald’s restaurant, 2005 Richardson Road. An employee sent $2,908 to someone who called the restaurant claiming to be the director of operations, police reported.

The employee told officers someone called the restaurant at about 10 p.m. Aug. 26. She said the person who called instructed her to make three transactions using a Bitcoin machine at the nearby Circle K gas station, 2001 Richardson Road, the report said.

The employee said she provided the transaction numbers to the person who called to give the caller access to the funds, according to the report.

As of Sept. 4, none of the money had been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Detective Lt. Jeremy Christopher said. He also said the Arnold Police forwarded the report to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.
