Bridgeton hit-and-run left 14-year-old with broken leg, amputated ear

Antonio Corona, 38, was charged Thursday for leaving the scene of the crash.

BRIDGETON, Mo. — A Bridgeton man was charged for a hit-and-run earlier this week that left a 14-year-old boy seriously injured.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office on Thursday issued a felony charge of leaving the scene of an crash against Antonio Corona.

Bridgeton police said that shortly after 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a pedestrian struck call in front of the Mobil Mart gas station near the intersection of McKelvey and Natural Bridge roads.

When officers arrived, they found the teenager unconscious on the side of the road. He had been hit by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Natural Bridge Road, police said.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the boy to the hospital for treatment of a broken leg and an amputated ear.

Surveillance video from a nearby camera showed a gray and white van hitting the teenager. Detectives were also able to get a potential license plate number, according to charging documents.

Detectives went to the address associated with the van's registration and talked with Corona and his wife. His wife said her husband had driven the van on the day of the accident, police said.

When asked why detectives would want to talk with him, Corona responded, "It was because of what happened the night before with the kid."

Corona told detectives were to find the van and was arrested a short time later.

Corona was being held at the St. Louis County Justice Center on a $50,000 bond.
