CALHOUN COUNTY, ILLINOIS, Ill. — Calhoun County Assessor Peggy Hall, who is running unopposed for the same position in November's election, is facing theft charges, according to Illinois State Police (ISP).

The ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Special Investigations Unit worked with the Calhoun County State’s Attorney to charge Hall for theft investigators believe she made while working as the Calhoun Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Treasurer.

"On February 13, 2024, the Calhoun County State’s Attorney notified ISP of allegations of theft against Calhoun County Assessor Peggy Hall, ISP said. "The allegations of theft were related to her role as PTO Treasurer and not in her capacity as Calhoun County Assessor."

ISP investigated the allegations of stealing PTO funds before turning over the case to the Illinois State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor.

Hall was charged with one count of theft over $10,000 and another count of deceptive practices. She was served a warrant and released with her first court appearance set for the day after the election on Nov. 6.

"All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law," ISP said.
