Suspect jumps out of car while fleeing police without putting car in park, car rolls into officer

The car rolled, hitting the female officer that was trying to catch him. She was checked out by paramedics but returned to duty a short time later.

ST. LOUIS — An officer was hit by a rolling car but was not injured after a man suspected of firing shots nearby bailed out of the car without putting it in park, police said.

At around 7:45 Monday night, officers were called to the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Arsenal Street for a report of shots fired in the alley. When officers pulled up, a car sped off, and the officers gave chase.

A passenger bailed out of the car during the short chase, but officers continued to follow the car. The driver jumped out of the car near the intersection of Michigan and Chippewa and tried to run off, but he did not put the car in park.

The car rolled, hitting the female officer that was trying to catch him. She was checked out by paramedics but returned to duty a short time later.

Police caught up with the driver a short time later and took him into custody.

Charges have not been filed in the case yet.
