ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A 19-year-old was charged in the death of a Jennings man who was shot last month after interrupting people who were trying to steal his car.
St. Louis County prosecutors on Friday charged Thomas Terry, 19, with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and two counts each of armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution.
Officers responding to the May 6 shooting found Darryl Mischeaux, 36, shot in his driveway on the 5300 block of Fletcher Street. He was rushed to an area hospital, where he died.
According to court documents, Terry and others set off the alarm on Mischeaux's Kia Stinger while breaking into it. The group then confronted Mischeaux and shot him, then fled the scene in the victim's car and another vehicle.
Court documents did not clarify who fired the shot that killed Mischeaux.
Police said the group cleaned out the stolen car. Thomas had his phone destroyed when he learned he was being investigated.
In a police interview, Thomas acknowledged his involvement in the crimes, documents said.
Thomas was being held on $750,000 bond.
