CREVE COEUR, Mo. — A man tried to hit two children with his car while yelling racial slurs at them in Creve Coeur, charging documents said.

Samuel Lay, 30, was charged with attempted assault and armed criminal action in connection with the Friday incident.

The charging document said the two boys, 12- and 14-years-old, were walking on Morwood Lane when Lay came driving the other way. The documents said Lay slammed on his brakes, turned his car toward them and sped at them.

The boys had to jump into the grass along the road to avoid getting hit.

After jumping out of the way, the boys resumed walking toward their destination when Lay pulled up next to them and yelled racial slurs, curse words and threats at them. The boys are of Indian descent.

In the charging documents, police said Lay has a "history of violence and yelling racial slurs at members of the community who are minorities."
