ST. LOUIS — A man was sentenced Friday to 45 years in prison for a Dutchtown shooting.

Cleveland V. Washington Jr., 22, was convicted of killing 23-year-old Deionta McCurry on August 22, 2022.

The shooting happened in the 3600 block of Montana Street. Police found McCurry in an alley suffering from gunshot wounds.

Investigators say the men argued over money from stolen catalytic converters. Washington said the shooting was self-defense, and the victim tried to rob him.

Washington was sentenced to 30 years in prison for second-degree murder and 15 years for armed criminal action.

Washington is also accused of holding a city jail guard hostage in August 2023. Washington and three other inmates were charged after a 73-year-old guard was assaulted and then held hostage for around two hours.
