ST. LOUIS — A second person has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Colin Brown, a high school hockey player who was shot while riding in a car with his father on Interstate 55.
Donovan Baucom Jr., 28, was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder, shooting from a motor vehicle and multiple other crimes in connection with the shooting. Garrett Jordan, who was arrested last week, is also facing several charges, including first-degree murder.
St. Louis police arrested Baucom Tuesday with the help of the St. Louis County Police Department.
Jordan was arrested after police traced his phone's location data to the scene of the crime, the documents said. Jordan has since been charged with first-degree murder.
According to charging documents, investigators used witness testimony, security video and cell phone location data to place Jordan in a dark-colored Audi that is believed to be connected to the shooting. While investigating, police found that that Baucom's sister lent the vehicle to Baucom the day of the shooting, and he retuned it later in the day, charging documents said.
Investigators said they think Jordan and Baucom were following a second, unnamed victim's car southbound on I-55 at the time of the shooting. Brown and his father were traveling northbound when Brown was shot.
Police said Baucom admitted to driving the car during the shooting and that Jordan was firing a rifle from inside the car.
"During the arrest detectives seized two assault rifles," St. Louis police spokesman Mitch McCoy said. "It's under investigation right now if these particular firearms were used the night of Nov. 23, when Colin was struck by a stray bullet."
Baucom's sister also told police that Jordan was her cousin, according to the charging documents.
Both Baucom and Jordan are being held without bond.
