Concerns grow after two teens shot to death in two days in St. Louis area

"It's so sad especially because they're so young," said one concerned neighbor in South St. Louis County.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — It's extremely disturbing: teens in St. Louis county and city dying by gun violence.

Police said around 5:00 p.m. Thursday, 16-year-old Logan Snyder was shot and killed near the intersection of Regina and Horn Avenues in Lemay.

"Yes, it's sad especially because of their age. Children. It really gets to you," said neighbor Ryan Dybing.

Snyder was a student in the nearby Hancock Place School District.

In a statement, the district said "the senseless act has left our community in mourning, and our thoughts are with the student's family, friends and all who are affected by this loss."

"It's definitely very upsetting. I know a lot of parents are talking about how safe they feel with their children moving around, walking to school, to the buses, things like that at night," said Dybing.

Two nights before gunshots rang out in Lemay, bullets ripped across North Broadway and Riverview in a Baden neighborhood in North St. Louis.

Police said 15-year-old Jamar Hamilton of Glasgow Village was shot and killed in a Speedy Gas Station's parking lot.

Investigators say the teen was "with a group of people when they exchanged gunfire with occupants of another vehicle."

"I just believer there's not a lot for our youth to do," St. Louis community activist Precious Jones told 5 On Your Side.

Thursday, Jones called for an end to the teen violence. She also pleaded for more police to patrol the streets and communities to offer more positive alternatives to youth, in hopes of keeping teens on the right paths.

"We need resources. It's really sad that we're constantly losing our babies at a young age," added Jones.

At of Friday night, police have not said anything about a motive in connection with Logan Snyder's murder.

Detectives are looking for suspects and asking anyone with information to call the St. Louis County Police Department at (636) 520-8210 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371 TIPS (8477).
