ST. LOUIS — Police are asking for the public's help in finding who is responsible for cutting fiber optic lines, leading to service disruptions throughout the St. Louis region.

An area telecommunications provider experienced vandalism to their fiber optic network in recent months, according to St. Louis Regional CrimeStoppers.

Residents, businesses, emergency services and first responders in St. Louis have since reported disruptions. Cahokia, Roxanna, Caseyville and Madison, Illinois, have also been affected.

These acts of vandalism often take place in the evening hours, officials said, but a recent cut happened during the early afternoon along a bike path where utility poles are accessible.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the CrimeStoppers Tip Hotline at 1-866-371-TIPS (8477). All tips are completely anonymous.

Those who provide information leading to the arrest of the vandals could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000. The telecommunications company is offering additional cash rewards for these arrests for the next 30 days.

More information may be forthcoming further into the investigation. This story will be updated with the latest information as it becomes available.
