Police: Man charged in fatal shooting admits he chased victim's vehicle into Imperial subdivision

A 20-year-old Arnold man is in custody in connection with the deadly shooting, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

IMPERIAL, Mo. — A shooting in Imperial left a man dead Wednesday evening.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, 20-year-old Chaptur Wagoner of Arnold was charged with one count each of first-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action in the shooting death of 43-year-old Timothy Geitz.

The shooting happened Wednesday evening in the 2400 block of Lombard Lane. Officers arrived to find Geitz dead at the wheel of a vehicle.

Two other victims who were in or near the vehicle at the time of the shooting identified Wagoner as the shooter, the sheriff's office said.

Wagoner admitted in a police interview that he was upset with the victims and chased their vehicle into a subdivision in Imperial, according to a probable cause statement. Wagoner said he entered the subdivision twice to look for them, and once he found them, he fired one round at the vehicle, striking Geitz.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said they believed Wagoner and Geitz were familiar with each other and this was a targeted incident.

Wagoner was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail.
