St. Louis alderman calls gas station near execution-style murder 'a haven for crime'

ST. LOUIS — The downtown St. Louis Shell gas station at 721 N. Tucker Blvd. will close by Aug. 1, part of a settlement of litigation that targeted the business as a nuisance property that attracts crime.

The parties to two lawsuits confirmed that the business will close by Aug. 1, and that a deed restriction will prevent the future use of the site as a gas station or convenience store.

The property is owned by Tucker Shell LLC and operated by Tucker Shell Station Inc. Its principals are Dong Kyun Lee and Sunae Lee.

A pair of lawsuits targeted the business.

One, from the Neighborhood Improvement Association-Downtown West and resident Matt O'Leary, claimed that when the business was issued a conditional use permit in 2003, gas stations weren't — and still aren't — an allowed use in the area, known as a central business district. A St. Louis Circuit Court judge agreed, and earlier this year declared the permit void.
