FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. — An East St. Louis, Illinois, man was charged with two felonies Friday. He is accused of killing his wife who was found dead Thursday at a hotel in Fairview Heights.
Police said 48-year-old Clifton Davis III has been charged with murder with the intent to kill or injure and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
The Fairview Heights Police Department said a woman was the victim of a domestic homicide at the Super 8 by Wyndham Fairview Heights-St. Louis at 45 Ludwig Drive in Fairview Heights, Illinois. She was pronounced dead at the scene just before 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
She was identified by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. as 34-year-old Vaness Cherry, of East St. Louis.
Police said early Friday morning that her husband was taken into custody at a bus stop. He is being at the St. Clair County Jail awaiting a pretrial detention hearing.
Police have not released any further information but said there was no continuing threat to the public.
The department said it would release more details as the investigation continues.
