Family, friends speak out after Christmas Eve triple shooting kills husband, father of 3

All three men were treated at a hospital, but Kenneth Covington, 33, died from his injuries. It does not appear that police have a suspect in custody.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — St. Louis County police found three men shot on Christmas Eve in the 11200 block of West Florissant Avenue.

Police said the preliminary investigation reveals that an altercation happened inside of a business. When the people involved went into a parking lot, it escalated to a shooting.

All three men were treated at a hospital, but Kenneth Covington, 33, died from his injuries.

At this time, it does not appear that St. Louis County police have a suspect in custody for the shooting.

On Monday, Covington's friend, Shaquille O'Shea Latimore, confirmed he leaves behind a wife and three children.

Latimore didn't want to speak on camera to 5 On Your Side but described him as a "family man, very supportive of his children and overall a great person."

Latimore, too, was a victim of gun violence in October 2023. He said Covington was the friend that checked on him every day when he was recovering.

Former St. Louis high school football coach Carl Reed Jr. confirmed to 5 On Your Side Monday, his oldest son was also injuried in the Christmas Eve shooting.

In a post to X, formerly known as Twitter, Reed thanked people for "all the calls and concerns regarding my oldest son, KK."

"He was shot last night and is in stable condition. He has a tough road ahead of him physically and mentally. We thank you for all the prayers. Please send prayers and support to the wife and kids of his older brother Kenny, as he did not make it.

"Kenny was always a stand-up guy, loved his brother, and was the true essence of what an older brother and a father were supposed to be. He was extremely proud of KK and everything he has accomplished thus far."

St. Louis County police said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477) or the St. Louis County Police Department at 314-615-8600.
