Farmington man sentenced to 40 years for 2015 murder

A Farmington, Missouri, man was sentenced to 40 years in prison Wednesday for in connection with the December 2015 stabbing death of a Collinsville, Illinois, man.

Jessie James Werley, 35, was charged with first-degree murder in June for the stabbing death of Daniel Taylor. On Wednesday, Dec. 7, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — A Farmington, Missouri, man was sentenced to 40 years in prison Wednesday for in connection with the December 2015 stabbing death of a Collinsville, Illinois, man.

Jessie James Werley, 35, was charged with first-degree murder in June, and on Wednesday, he pleaded guilty.

Daniel Taylor, 68, was found dead in his home on the 600 block of Ostle Drive on Dec. 8. Police determined he was stabbed multiple times, at which time the major case squad was called to investigate.

They identified Werley and Eva D. Heisch as suspects before handing the case back to the Collinsville Police Department. Both were charged in connection with the crime in June.

Penalties for first-degree murder range from 20-to-60 years. Associate Judge Neil Schroeder handed down Werley’s 40 year prison sentence.

No word on Heisch's case.
