Man in custody after fatally shooting another man during domestic situation in Fenton

FENTON, Mo. — A man was taken into custody after fatally shooting another man Thursday evening in Fenton during what police said was a domestic situation. 

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office identified the man fatally shot as 39-year-old Jarvis Person on Friday. 

The sheriff's office said it received a call shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday regarding a domestic violence incident that happened at a home on Matthews Drive in Fenton. 

According to the sheriff's office, Person was assaulting a woman when a 20-year-old man tried to intervene. 

The 20-year-old shot Person one time, the sheriff's office said. He was taken into custody and has been cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Person was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The sheriff's office said Person and the woman were in a romantic relationship and the suspect was known to both of them.

The suspect's identity has not been released as of Friday.
