ST. LOUIS — A Ferguson man was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Wednesday after pleading guilty to fatally shooting his wife in downtown St. Louis on March 5, 2022.

Police said 48-year-old Lisa Cannaday was shot several times and killed after getting out of her husband's car at about 10:45 p.m. on North 4th Street near Washington Avenue. The husband, 45-year-old Jerome Cannaday, admitted to driving off after shooting her, and he called 911 after stopping several blocks away from the scene.

On Wednesday, Cannaday pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action and received a 15-year sentence for the manslaughter charge and a consecutive 3-year sentence for armed criminal action.

Cannaday was initially charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the shooting. He was set to go to trial in the case next week, according to a release from the 22nd Judicial Circuit.

As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed an illegal gun possession charge.
