LAKE ST LOUIS, Mo. — Police found a stolen car from Nevada in Lake St. Louis Friday afternoon thanks to a FLOCK camera.
St. Charles County Police found the car near Bent Oak Apartments in Lake St. Louis. Police officers then tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect intentionally rammed an O'Fallon Police Department squad car and drove away, which led to a pursuit.
One person who lives nearby caught the commotion on her balcony camera while she was away.
"Nothing is sacred anymore. I mean, somebody comes through and just created destruction, " Rolanda Raspberry said. "I'm glad I wasn't home, but I feel bad for the people whose cars were damaged."
O'Fallon Police Department officers successfully used spike strips to stop the car. Before running away from the car, the suspect continued to drive but allowed an unnamed passenger and a 2-year-old child to leave the car. Police were able to get the passengers to safety.
Lake St. Louis officers helped O'Fallon officers arrest the suspect after they ran away. Police found a stolen Nevada firearm in the stolen car, a written release from the O'Fallon Police Department said.
The suspect was taken to Progress West Hospital to make sure they were medically fit to be detained. There, the suspect escaped police custody.
O'Fallon officers and nearby law enforcement agencies set up a perimeter to find the suspect. With help from a K-9 unit, the suspect was tracked and taken back into custody.
No officers were injured.
