FLORISSANT, Mo. — A Florissant man is accused of shooting a 13-year-old who was trying to break into his car.
Demetrius Haymon, 23, is facing one count each of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
The St. Louis County Police Department said Haymon was notified on Saturday that two kids were breaking into his car.
Police said Haymon grabbed a Glock handgun and confronted the juveniles, who ran away.
Haymon fired one shot at them while they were fleeing, striking the 13-year-old in the backside, police said. The teenager was taken to a children's hospital for treatment.
Haymon was ordered to be held on $150,000 bond. A bond reduction hearing was scheduled for Thursday.
In Missouri, first-degree assault carries a minimum sentence of 5 years in prison and a maximum sentence of 15 years.
