ST. LOUIS — A former longtime deputy Missouri juvenile officer was sentenced this week to a seven-year prison term after pleading guilty to a child sex charge last October.
Scott F. Burow, 63, was sentenced Tuesday to seven years in prison after he pleaded guilty to one felony charge of transportation of a minor across state lines to engage in prohibited sexual conduct.
According to a press release U.S. Attorney Sayler Fleming of the Eastern District of Missouri, he admitted to taking a 15-year-old girl across state lines to have sex with her in Marion County, Missouri, back in 2020.
Prosecutors said he met the girl on an online dating site on which she claimed to be a young adult. Burow agreed to pay $100 to have sex with her, the plea agreement said. He demanded a nude photo of the girl to "ensure that she was not an undercover law enforcement officer or working with police," the press release said.
The press release said Burow picked the girl up from a public park near her Illinois home and drove her to his home in Missouri to have sex with her. Prosecutors said he secretly recorded the sex acts.
Prosecutors said he then dropped the girl off at a motel in Palmyra, Missouri, where she was able to flag down police officers to help her.
Prosecutors said the girl was living in a facility supporting children struggling with issues related to attachment and developmental trauma at the time of the crime.
In addition to the seven-year sentence, Burow was ordered to pay $7,500 in restitution to the victim's family and another $5,000 to a fund to help victims of child pornography and child trafficking.
