ST. LOUIS — A former St. Louis police officer is facing charges for drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
Investigators say Jason Flanery was driving his patrol car last month when he hit a parked vehicle on Jamieson Avenue in south St. Louis, then took off. Flanery was arrested, and later resigned from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Investigators used a search warrant to obtain a blood sample from him.
On Monday, the Circuit Attorney's office issued charges against Flanery for DWI and Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident.
"It really doesn't matter to us if someone is a police officer," Joyce said. "If they commit a crime, we're going to investigate them the same as any other citizen. And if the evidence leads to the conclusion that they should be charged with a crime, we're going to do so."
Flanery is also the former officer who shot and killed Vonderrit Myers in October 2014 in the Shaw neighborhood. Prosecutors later determined Flanery acted legally in the shooting.
Myers family has filed a wrongful death suit.
