Franklin County woman calls 911 after fatally shooting husband, police say

Samantha Lackey admitted shooting and killing her husband, Matthew Lackey, during a domestic disturbance, Washington police said.

WASHINGTON, Mo. — A Franklin County woman was charged Monday with second-degree murder and armed criminal action after admitting to shooting and killing her husband, police said.

According to the Washington Police Department, 31-year-old Samantha Lackey called 911 on Sunday to report she had just shot her husband. Officers arrived at the scene in the 1500 block of East 8th Street in Washington to find her husband, 31-year-old Matthew Lackey, dead with a gunshot wound.

Police said the investigation revealed Lackey had fired one fatal shot from a handgun at her husband during a domestic disturbance.

The Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney's Office issued charges against Lackey on Monday, and she was denied bond on both charges.

The Bullet Related Injury Clinic (BRIC) is a community-based clinic in St. Louis that helps people heal after they have been injured by a bullet. The BRIC was established to help people who are discharged from the emergency department after being shot.
